So, Tony George is gone from both IRL, and IMS now. His family finally ousted him. Just 15 years too late.

In other words, we're back to square one - one series with Tony having no power - except it's gone entirely to shit in the meantime.

I miss Champ Car. I miss proper cars.

It just shows how fkn pointless establishing the IRL really was. When he finally gets his wish (total power), he loses it, but what's left isn't even a shadow of its former self.

Well hopefully the series can rebuild itself. I'm looking forward to 2012 and the new "delta wing" car. If anything ever comes of it...

The delta wing "car" design was originally with three wheels.

Haha seriously? I've seen some crazy looking drawings but they're only student designs. Some do look amazing. Some look like a joke.

Open it up to multiple chassis, FFS!

Former Champ Car constructor Lola says it has made its pitch for the new generation Indycar to the Indy Racing League board and reckons it satisfies the board's list of requirements for the IndyCar Series' future.

Lola is up against existing IndyCar supplier Dallara, fellow ex-Champ Car builder Swift, and the new Delta Wing group in the race to produce the 2012 Indycar chassis.

Make really strict rules, so they don't have too much to play with and build similar cars (so one manufacturer can't be overly better than any others) and go nuts. It's one of the biggest things that held AOW back the past decade.

That would be great but the costs could start to get stupid if manufacturers are competing against each other. The series really needs to rebuild itself first. If possible

But as you say, if you don't allow them to mess with the cars too much then it could remain affordable.

Fix the cost of the chassis into the manufacturer's contract with the series. So if the manufacturers want to go nuts in a development war with each other, then it doesn't cost the teams.

They really need to open up the rules to multiple chassis/engines, surely. It's been spec for too long. Two/three chassis and a couple of engine makers can't be that hard to regulate, can it?

Also, please tell me that this:

Isn't the sort of thing that they're planning.

I have found other things to care about aside from IRL and Champ cars, just as most American's have now. The organizers simply crapped all over a great racing series and it's going to take some radical action on their part to get the audience back. Taking a turd and putting a nose, wheels, and silly paint all over it is not going to do it. No one wants to see 20 turds chasing each other around an oval, do they?

Tony George is a douche and I'm glad he's not involved any more, but that's just not enough to get me to care again. Hopefully, I'll happen to catch a race or two that has some actual excitement and want to tune into the next. But each race I watched over the past few years has not left me wanting more.
