Carl Edwards - Awesome driver.

Postby MiÑardi » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:05 pm

Plenty of times in NASCAR we've seen drivers getting angry and going out for revenge. Not sure if anyone was watching the race yesterday but Carl Edwards thought he'd get his "revenge" at 190mph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11apmisTj5E

Dangerous, stupid and I hope he gets a ban. Thoughts?

I don't know what prompted the move, but good on him. He's my favourite driver in Nascar (the one or two races I watch a year), so woohoo blind fanboy love :P

:P He was angry about this move earlier in the race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FgeopsJKIM (skip to about 2mins 59) In which Carl admitted it wasn't really Brads fault. Carl was 150 laps down when he came out of the pits with one intention. Also at 4:20 in that video, Carl already has a go at him the lap before!

You'd think he might take him out on the slow down lap or have a fight about it after the race. Flipping a car towards the grandstand is a little dangerous.

I would agree... But it's what 99.9% of the crowd came to see, lol.

That's what NASCAR fans like to see. No way he gets punished for that.

This article is a good example of the NASCAR mentality: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cu ... id=5382652

Yeah, I used to like him. Not anymore.

NASCAR blows.

If he's gonna cheat like that, he should get some black gloves!
While he's at it, he may also want to pick up a black cowboy hat and a small cigar, and a great sneering laugh whenever someone needs help....

That's true. Edwards looks and acts like an innocent schoolboy off the track. He's the clean cut, articulate, sponsor's dream kind of driver who appears in a bazillion TV ads. Yet he goes out on the track and tries to kill other drivers.

Dale Earnhardt (senior) was a first class a**hole on the track, but people loved him for it because he perfected the whole act. He was The Intimidator - the grizzled guy who just looked mean, even when he wasn't in his black car.

Does your average NASCAR fan like seeing this though? I'm all for rivalries and abit of bumping but this has been 2 or 3 incidents of just flat out wrecking the guy. Once at 190mph, another time infront of the whole field... If you're mad enough to have to deliberately crash somebody then do it in the turns at Martinsville or on a slowing down lap or something.

The other really stupid thing is that Brad was never at fault in Atlanta and I'm not sure why Carl went for a suicidal revenge. I'm not convinced that Brad meant to get into Carl here either, but a little rub on the last lap is not uncommon.

Brad's dad is awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO6i0jgGHe8 :D

You haven't seen some of his antics off track. He's been in a couple dust ups with his team mates (face to face). Old stuff, but I'll see if I can find a link.

Yeah, sorry, I was talking about his PR persona. He's a first class a**hole when he's not reading from a script.

I was surprised to see NASCAR give Edwards a penalty, but the one they gave was pretty gutless.

I noticed Brad was also put on probation until the end of the season. Interesting decision to say the least.

I think that's just to prevent him from retaliating against Edwards in the future.
