Guess The Pole: Bahrain

Postby jls » Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:03 am

Hello chaps, since we have unfortunately lost our GTP master from this year on, I will be getting this new 2010 season underway. At this point in time, our 2009 champion xcraigx will most likely be taking over running the GTP competition for 2010.

We begin the 2010 season in the sand in Bahrain instead of the usual trek to Australia. PLEASE NOTE, THE BAHRAIN TRACK HAS BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY LENGTHENED THIS YEAR - as detailed in the diagram here: http://www.formula1.com/races/in_detail ... agram.html - so please take this into account when making your predictions.

--------------------------------------------------

Round 1 - GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Track Length: 6.299 km
Race Laps: 49 (308.405 Km)

2009 Pole time: Jarno Trulli (Toyota) 1:33.431

The deadline for entries is before the start of Friday First Free Practice (Friday 0700 GMT)

From what I can recall of it (I was sort of half asleep when I read it, and it was gone when I came back the next day) - he's fine, just changes in his life meaning he doesn't have the time to spend on the game/FMB that he once did.

I don't know how long the thread lasted, so I don't know if anyone else actually saw it before it disappeared who can confirm this :P ....but I'm pretty sure it was more a case of 'moving on' rather than something more serious.

Thanks jls for getting this thing going! Shame that we've lost Mark, a very active and bubbly FMB member.

Hi guys,

Yes, jls has described my short-lived post perfectly. Due to certain circumstances, I simply don't have the time to spend on GTP this year. So, for those that didn't see the thread, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has played and helped out with GTP during the seven and a bit years I ran the competition. Without your input and support there would be no game so thank you guys for making the competition a success and my time on the forum enjoyable. And I'd just like to say a thank you also to jls and xcraigx for taking over the running of GTP this year.

I know I might be shooting myself in the foot here, but here's to help you guys out a bit.

The Bahrain track has been extended by almost 900 meters. If this year's pole time would be run at the same average speed as last year's (208.530 km/h), the lap would take 1:48.744.

However, the new bit looks rather slow and twisty to me, and seeing as it's replacing a bit of track that's pretty much flat-out, I'd say that average speed might drop by quite a bit, even when running on empty fuel tanks.
