The rules for the race

  • Race distance: 28 laps/377,0 km.
  • Realistic damage, no shift-R.
  • Drivers who don't run during qualifying practice can still start in the race but they must prove their ability to lap the circuit at a reasonable pace in a replay over at least 3 consecutive laps. The replay lap time will not count for qualifying; you will start from the back of the grid in championship order.
  • By running in qualifying you guarantee yourself a place on the grid. Anyone who comes in after qualifying will have to hope there's room left.
  • Since qualifying and race are a week apart, we will have to set up our own starting grid. This will be done by connecting to the server in our qualifying order (polesitter first), in which case we will automatically be in the right place - only the server may have to move around.
  • The race will have a rolling start coming out of Maison Blanche, after one pace lap during which you have time to move to your place if you need to and warm up your tires. Remember don't get too close to anyone, never driver directly behind anyone as they may suddenly brake or swerve to warm up.
  • The polesitter sets the pace for the pace lap and can start the race whenever he wants as soon as he accerates out of Maison Blanche. No overtaking before start/finish! (And if you're smart, not before the Mulsanne straight)
  • If you retire, tell the others. "<your name> RETIRED - <cause>" will suffice. Save the rest for VROC or the board! You are free to watch the race ofcourse but no chatting, no commenting. Any unnecessary chat by retired drivers will be awarded with a nice one race ban.
  • There will be double points for this extra long race, but only if you actually finish the race. Others get the regular amount of points:

  • When there is just one driver left, first we let him drive on until he's in the lead if he wasn't already. Then he can stop and the race will be ended. Afterall there is no point in racing on all alone. After 50% of the race is run (14 laps), the winner gets 24 points if he's left alone. Before that, he gets the usual 12 plus a percentage of the 12 extra points.
That percentage is determined by how many laps he's into the race at the time it is stopped.

Going with the 30% example, that would mean the race ends after 9 (8,4) laps. 9 laps is more exactly 32% of the race, so he gets 12 + 0,32*12 = 15,84 = 16 points for the win.

Some obvious tips:

  • Make sure you carry enough fuel for the full distance! When you take on fuel for 28 laps you may still run out, so test if what the setup page says to be fuel for, say 5 laps, also gets you that far.
  • Make or get yourself a good setup. This race is not about hotlapping, so you can better lose some speed and get a car that you're completely comfortable with, so that you're always in control.
  • Take extreme care in overtaking. And if someone wants to overtake you, coöperate. Live and let live!
  • Going off doesn't have to mean the end of your race, but take care when you go on after an accident. Driving with a slightly bent chassis is fine as long as you are in total control of it. If you're swerving when the leaders come up to lap you you could very easily cause an accident.
  • Taking it easy to reach the finish is fine, but when you go too slow you will become a danger to others. So do keep up a pace. A acceptable race pace would be at least around 3:30.
  • Use the Force.
